About the Trust
-
Gibraltar Heritage Trust (registered Gibraltar Charity No: 48) is a
statutory body entrusted with the preservation of Gibraltar’s heritage.

The Trust is governed by a Board of twelve Trustees who are all volunteers
-
The Trust is an independent organisation with the aim of working in
partnership with all like-minded bodies, locally and internationally. The
Trust will aim to add value through its partnerships supporting and
complementing existing organisations and by stimulating new initiatives,
rather than replacing, or duplicating activities.

The Trust is responsible to the people of Gibraltar for the preservation
and enhancement of all aspects of Gibraltar’s heritage, which includes
promoting all aspects of Gibraltar’s heritage culturally, educationally
and touristically. It works closely with the Government of Gibraltar and
the private sector in fulfilling its aims.

The Trust operates on a not-for-profit basis. Any surplus funds are
applied to achieving the objectives of the Trust.

The aims of the Trust are to promote and secure the preservation and
enhancement of Gibraltar’s heritage as defined by Sections 4 and 10 of the
Gibraltar Heritage Trust Act, 1989.

The Trust has the functions of:
(a) Promoting and securing the preservation and enhancement of Gibraltar’s
Heritage.
(b)
Advising Government on any planning
or other proposals affecting any listed building, structure, site or land
(c)
Promoting the public’s enjoyment of
and advancing their knowledge of Gibraltar’s heritage
(d)
Promoting research into and
publications on Gibraltar’s heritage and on the social history of Gibraltar
including its social, cultural, economic and political evolution.
(e)
Assisting the Government of
Gibraltar in the formulation of policy in respect of these matters.
