The history of Telephony in Gibraltar  

Malcolm Beanland will give an illustrated history of the development of Gibraltar’s telephony.

A visit to the Masonic Lodge in Prince Edwards Road  

The history of the Masons in Gibraltar is a long and fascinating one with records of first meetings going back to 1727 making it the oldest Institution in Gibraltar. The tour will be led by Keith Sheriff who has published on the Masonic history of Gibraltar.  

Meet: 9:30am at John Mackintosh Square to walk up to the lodge so please bring comfortable walking shoes. The tour will take approximately 2hours.

Painting Competition

Theme: Grand Battery

Registration on site: Between 9:00am at 12pm.

 Details: Painting/ Sketching competition open to all ages. Paintings must be started and completed on the day of the competition between 9am and 5pm. Children (age 10 and Under), Junior (age 11 to 16) and Adult categories (age 17 and over). Participants must supply their own art materials. Entries should not be larger than 76cm x 60cm.  Saturday 11th May
Visit to Vanguard Cave  

The Trust has been given special access by the Gibraltar Museum to visit the archaeological excavations at Vanguard Cave, sister cave to Gorham’s Cave, during this years excavation season. There will be 3 visits limited to a group size of 10 per group. Please bring a bottle of drinking water and a snack. 

The group will descend to the cave at 2pm and start the ascent with the team at 5:30pm for an approx 6pm exit. It will not be possible to leave this tour early. This is an MOD secured area so entry and exit times are out of our control.  

Important Note: Due to the nature of the site, those attending need to be confident in their level of fitness and ability to descend the 300+ steps to the site and climb them again at the end of the day. You will also be asked to sign an indemnity form confirming that you are visiting the site at your own risk.
